Specializing in Creativity*
I know people focus on more concrete subjects within their professional and personal pursuits. You will see people specializing in Marketing, Finance, Supply-Chain. Even hobbies will be more concrete concepts like drawing, golf, and cooking. It is a bit weird to go ahead and just decide to specialize in something that is not really concrete.
Trying to find my way
When to trying to find what my “craft” will be I became extremely confused. I have a tendency to get into a subject or interest and think of nothing else. Very unproductive, but if it helps me find what I want to spend all my life doing then it's worth it right? Uh, not really. I got so interested in things, and I loved all of them.
The way I looked to solve this hurdle was to find patterns. What do all these interests have in common, in conjunction with what am I naturally good at, that I can build on? I love art, but I can’t handle the fine art industry (Rant coming soon), I love food but probably more eating than cooking. That was the main dilemma that I was facing. Finding that perfect balance and connection to all of these random interests, and the ability and if I could ever monetize that? Jackpot.
What Do All of these interests have in common?
At First, I was a bit negative and thought. These are all great things to love, but they have no practical application ( that I could think of). I was reading an article ( I will link it when I find it), and It was talking about the importance of Creativity for our future. I went on one of my rabbit holes and started to make really interesting observations. The most important was that all my interests were grounded in creativity in one way or another. That was a start, but just because you have a creative interest doesn’t mean you are a creator e.g. just because I write this blog doesn’t mean I’m a writer.
What Comes Natural to Me
So now I understood that I love creativity, but how could I make that work in a practical sense? How Can I make it where I can create expertise for myself. I hold the belief, that we all have some sort of predisposition to great at certain things. I can be the biggest fanatic of basketball, and practice 8 hours a day since I was four, but there will be some people out there training just as hard, and are a foot taller and blessed with athleticism, that I cannot even dream about.
The Good news for me was that I am bad away more things than I am good at. I never had the problem of picking between going to Harvard or Stanford. So I never had too many options to choose from. was a naturally good communicator, always had some sort of side hustle going. So That's a start. The reason I am going through this process is that being creative isn’t enough. So the natural progression was to open a business that focuses on creativity.
Understanding creativity Through Practice
Having great ideas only matters when you can put them into practice. That is an overarching theme you will see throughout these posts. Forcentrics builds teams of Creatives and Marketers. From an HR and Recruiting standpoint, I had a deep understanding, but with Creative and Marketing teams is that its hard to judge, because it's not always about ROI or Resumes. So I became a practitioner. I started to learn HTML, ran ads on all social platforms and conventional methods, and started to learn graphic design and other creative specialties.
Now I was able to judge Creative talent more effectively, and it gave me access to the top creative people in the world to pick their brains about the process of creativity through their eyes, and with time and pattern recognition I started to see the creativity around me, in places I could not imagine.
Bootstrapping a business or solving day-to-day problems involves creativity. Finding out what you want to do with your life involves creativity. Heck, even Parenting needs creativity. The reason I mention these ideas that we don’t always associate creativity with certain areas in life, and the goal of this project is to make those interesting connections along with celebrating projects we naturally associate Creativity.
Conclusion
There will be a lot of my story or journey for context, but it also better helps me to work out my own process, and I found a solution to my problems. Hopefully, someone can find value in how I figured things out, and if not, then more relevant content will be on its way I promise.
